Indonesia dominates the Huelva Spain Masters

The Huelva Spain Masters ends its 2021 edition. Indonesian players have dominated the top positions of the podium in this event of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300.

The Carolina Marín Sports Palace has witnessed the high level of the world’s best rackets that have played the tournament. Indonesian players have been present in all the finals, winning 4 of the 5 modalities played.

Toma Junior Popov [2] (France) won the men’s singles title against Indonesian player Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, the only European gold medal of the tournament. Popov closed out the match in two sets, 21-15 and 21-17, in the longest match (55 min).

Putri Kusuma Wardani (Indonesia) beat Denmark’s Line Christophersen [3] in the women’s singlesWardani sealed her gold with a final score of 21-15 and 21-10.

In the men’s doublesPramudya Kusumawardana – Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan [5] (Indonesia) won against their partners Sabar Karyaman Gutama – Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in the most closely contested match of the day: 21-15, 18-21 and 21-14.

Indonesia also won the women’s doublesYulfira Barkah – Febby Valencia Dwijayanti Gani beat top-seeded Danish duo Amalie Magelund – Freja Ravn [1] 21-16, 21-14.

Finally, the gold medal in the mixed doubles went to tournament top seeds Rinov Rivaldy [1] – Pitha Haningtyas Mentari (Indonesia). Rivaldy-Mentari confirmed their dominance against the tournament’s number 2 seeds, Niclas Nohr – Amalie Magelund [2] (Denmark), by 21-18 and 21-15.

The awards ceremony of the Huelva Spain Masters 2021 was attended by Mr Gabriel Cruz, Mayor of Huelva; Ms Maria Teresa Flores, Councillor for Sports of the Huelva City Council; Mr Francisco Baluffo, Councillor for Tourism, Promotion and University of the Huelva City Council; Estela Villalba, Territorial Delegate for Sports of the Andalusian Regional Government; Andoni Azurmendi, President of the Spanish Badminton Federation; and Carlos Longo, President of the Andalusian Badminton Federation. The ceremony was led by the mascot of the World ChampionshipsOnuba.

This edition of the Spain Masters ends successfully, placing Huelva in the world epicentre of badminton and inviting all the participants to take part in the World Championships, which will be held in the same facilities from 29 November to 5 December, and from 8 to 14 December, in the senior category.
